When we first established the Herd, we came together because we wanted to reverse the prevailing trend of suppliers that offer the cheapest deals, but instead deliver us an almost throwaway product with no longevity. Group purchasing sites like Group-on etc, are a good way to access better deals, but are they actually giving you a better product in the long term? Is that $10 meal what you were really after? We don’t think so.
The electricity market in Victoria – the most “competitive” in the world – is currently in the “race to the bottom”, with skyrocketing energy prices leading people to hunt down the cheapest deal with little regard to where the energy comes from. This is at a time when Victoria also has some of the world’s dirtiest brown coal power stations in operation, and national programs to shift our energy towards renewable sources. So after you’ve waded through the Greenwash, why doesn’t any electricity retailer try to sell you on the quality of energy that they are selling you?
As many of us who are working in the industry realise, it is complicated, and just plain confusing for the average punter to understand what is green, what is clean and what drives prices in the market today. The market is changing rapidly, with changes afoot with the carbon price and large and expensive energy infrastructure upgrades in many states, which means the best deal is a moving target.
So, we’ve decided to make it simple by doing this legwork for consumers, and create a community voice that can negotiate deals for those who want quality outcomes, at the best possible price.
Finding you the cheapest quality is easy (most people have already got it). We are about identify quality products that are cheap.
